Dredd is the best reboot in a long time

I just re-watched Dredd (hadn’t seen it since it came out) and I just had to mention it here.

Probably my favorite shot in the whole movie. Such a perfect head splatter. Really done well.

I’ve always been a fan of the original “Dredd” movie in the way I’m a fan of the movie Commando. I know it’s silly, over the top, and insults my intelligence story wise, but it’s fun. The reboot “Dredd” staring Karl Urban (Star Trek, Priest, The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King) and Olivia Thirlby (The Secret, United 93) is in a few words “fucking totally awesome”. The film takes itself much more seriously and is geared much more for adults than Stallone’s. Although I can’t argue with Armand Assante’s accent, this new version smashes the old one.
I’m not going to go into any in depth analysis of the plot, plenty of other sites do that. I will say this about the film… I am very pleased with the amount of gore and darkness. I appreciate not being treated like a child that can’t handle a little blood or death. I appreciate being allowed to handle the idea of drug using criminals getting their faces blown off. I appreciate that Karl Urban kept his helmet on the whole film (seriously, you never see his face). I applaud director Pete Travis for having the brains to find beauty in the gore and the balls to make sure it didn’t get fucked with by any “higher ups”.

Another great head shot. Dredd is not short on blood.

Anyway enough from me, check out some of the images below to see what I’m saying about the gore level. Pretty tasty. Go watch “Dredd” if you haven’t already, it’s a fun, gory, action-packed movie where Judge Dredd goes to the top of a building and throws the bad girl off. You will enjoy.

Nice gore shot here of a drug addict taking a bullet through the cheek.
